Analysis of two music videos:
Based on Andrew Goodwin's 6 features of music videos
We have now changed the idea for my piece of work to a trailer. This is because we discovered that we were allowed to do something else other than a music video. In addition to this the trailer resonates with us more as it seemed more interesting to us because collectively we prefer cinema over music and as a result would be able to do a better job.
Response to brief
We have chosen to do the trailer brief, this is because as it seems like one of the most interesting and challenging ones to do, due to fitting all the convention into 2 minutes worth of trailer. We had some initial ideas for the brief which you can see below including home intrusion etc.
Similar films that we are taking inspiration from include 'The Strangers', 'The Purge', 'Hitcher', 'The Gift', and 'The Shining'.

These will be similar to the film poster we will choose this is because they represent what we will be trying to create with our movie poster. They give you an indication of what the film will be about the main antagonist and a short of grim, sadistic theme. In addition to this they all represent our ideas whether that be a psychopath on the loose targeting a group of people, a serial killer posing as a hitchhiker or a home intrusion etc.We shall have to source our music from a royalty free music website this is because we as a group do not really have the means to make our own music however we shall still try.
We shall be looking to target the Aspirers, mainstreamers and explorers as they are mainly younger people in touch with the latest fashion and are more likely to go and see a conventional horror with their friends.

The main idea behind our production that we think we shall do is the
theme of revenge due to one individual being bullied horribly when they were
younger.Psychological effects of bullying-
*Depression
*Anxiety
*Increased risk of suicidal thoughts and
behaviours
*Loneliness
*Changes in eating and sleeping patterns
*Decreased achievement/motivation
*Long term damage to self esteem
*May suffer from disorders of many kinds
later in life e.g agoraphobia
Could turn victims into murderers in one
case a boy was being bullied so badly that he ended up murdering his bully.
This shows the effect bullying can have on people.
Many studies suggest that bullying can have
effects on adult life and in theory as much as the plot seems farfetched and
over dramatized it could happen.

EVALUATION OF QUESTIONNAIRE RESULTS
From this bar chart, we have found out that our target audience would prefer a horror film to be filmed either in a house or a forest. Therefore we have decided to film our production in a partly house and build up the tension from outside first and then increase the tempo inside.
From this question, we have found out that people would like to see the film in third person so you can actually see the person’s facial expression and this will make them jump more. This is rather than in a film such as ‘Clover Field’ which is on a cam corder as it would have less realism than a third person movie.
As you can see, people would like a stalker movie the most
as a result of this we will need to change our original idea as it will not
appeal as much to the target audience. I think that the Stalker movie will have
some real benefits as it hasn’t been done and awful lot and in addition the
antagonist is even more frightening due to you not knowing his/hers identity.
From this area graph, you can see that people like to see
the sub-genre of Psychological but Slasher is in a close second so we are going
to make a Slasher film trailer as if we make a Paranormal stalker movie they
will contrast too much and won’t be as effective as a slasher.
As you can see, our target audience would want the
antagonist to either wear a mask or look deformed, so we have chosen to have an
antagonist who is wearing a mask as we do not really have the budget or the
skill to do this.
People want to have the protagonist as the gender of a male
because it is stereotypical that male are superior to females and as a result
will be more brave when it comes to facing the stalker leading to more conflict
and action.
From this bar chart, we can see that our target audience would
want a knife to be used by the antagonist as it will make the murders more
gruesome and slow therefor making the audience more terrified.
People will want to have music that starts off slow and will
build up as the action intensifies this is a convention of horror trailers so
will be good to use in our trailer.

Thanks very much for your time
Comparison of our focus group and our questionnaire
From our questionnaire we found that our most popular
location to shoot our trailer would either be in a house or a forest, from the
focus group results only Lennon agreed that we should film in a forest whereas
Luke and Dan preferred the school and village location. The House setting would
be similar to the village setting mentioned by Dan but on a smaller scale as
the location we would film in would be smaller than a whole village.
We realised from our questionnaire that we missed finding
out information about our ancillary products. Therefore we focussed some of our
questions from the focus group on this and found that for the magazine Lennon
said he wanted to see bold colours to attract his attention, Luke and Dan said he
wanted to see lots of text to find out about the film, This shows a difference
in opinions therefore we would need to include a mixture of both in our
magazine to meet the demand from our target audience. Luke also stated that he
wanted to see screenshots from the trailer in order to find out more about the
film but also to make the magazine more interesting instead of being heavily
text based.
However all members of our focus group would rather watch a
trailer than read a magazine as it provides the audience with more information
about the film. This is partly due to the advancement in technologies as a
magazine is beginning to become outdated therefore is only read by the
minority. Film trailers are becoming increasingly popular as there are more
devices to watch it on and it gives more information about the film that is
more enjoyable for the audience to watch. Although on the previous question our
focus group said that they would read a magazine if it caught there attention
through the usage of bold colours with screenshots to grab their attention.
Our final question was based on the poster and what they
wanted to see as the main image, Lennon and Dan said that they wanted to see
the antagonist on the poster in order to make it more interesting and Dan also
said that he would only want to see the antagonist if they were masked so that
their identity stayed unknown to add suspense. If the antagonist wasn’t wearing
a mask Dan agreed with Luke and stated that he would rather see the protagonist
once again because they didn’t want the antagonist to be revealed, We noticed
that we didn’t have a question based on our ancillary task e.g. the poster, so
we have adapted our questionnaire by adding another question asking what the
audience would rather see on a film poster. Finally we have adapted our
questionnaire questions to make it clearer for the participants to understand
like the rating questions, we have now told them the scale for example 1 being
the worst and 10 being the best.
Final Pitch
We have decided to change our idea to a stalker movie trailer this is down to the fact that our target audience has said that they would be more interested in this than a movie based on revenge. In addition to this we feel as though because Stalker movies haven't been used a lot it will give our production the edge on others. In the stalker movie we will easily be able to connect with the audience because everyone has that feeling as though they're being followed now and again but in your head you never truly believe it. This trailer should aim to strike fear into the audience and I think the base behind the trailer gives us the best opportunity to do so. Two step flow gives us the best option to capture how the audience will react as we feel as thought the audience will be directly effected by the main opinion leaders in the trailer. If they do become effected it shall give them the effect that they are in the movie and will be looking over their shoulders every time they are out alone. Tzvetan Todorov's theory should be easy to replicate in the trailer as we will have an equilibrium where the victim is unaware of what is happening and is happy. The disruption so the stalker/antagonist is seen for the first time and the recognition of disruption so the protagonist knows the antagonist is trying to get them and then the attempt to repair so there should be some shots of the protagonist fighting back against the antagonist. Finally we should not use the new equilibrium because that will give away the whole story and as a result people will not want to go and see the movie. On the poster the audience would like to see the antagonist as it would draw their attention more and make them want to watch it, this is also the same on the magazine however they would want to see a long shot of the antagonist.
